Equity Release products (sometime called Home Income Plans) are, effectively, effectively a way of releasing cash from the equity (value) in your home with no interest or capital repayments being made until the property is sold or the owners move out.

This is extremely advantageous to those that are cash poor and asset rich who need to release capital to fund more income or those who have a reasonable income but want to make immediate lump sum gifts to family.

Too many elderly homeowners find themselves in the unenviable position of having to watch every penny they spend from day to day, while most of their money remains locked up in their single biggest asset - their home.

Others who do not have the same income problems are finding that Equity Release can be used to make gifts to family members in their lifetime and this can have the added potential advantage of reducing their Inheritance Tax (IHT).
